V-(으)세요 vs V-아/어 보세요 / “Please do vs Try doing in Korean”
Both forms are often translated as “please do…” in English, but the feeling and purpose are different.

1. V-(으)세요 = Polite request / instruction
1) Meaning
Used to politely tell someone to do something.
It sounds like a request, suggestion, or instruction from the speaker.
👉 Focus = The action itself
2) Feeling
The speaker believes the listener should do the action.
Example,
| 문을 닫으세요. | Please close the door. |
| 이 약을 드세요. | Please take this medicine. |
| 여기 앉으세요. | Please sit here. |
| 천천히 말씀하세요. | Please speak slowly. |
2. V-아/어 보세요 = Suggest trying something
1) Meaning
Used to suggest trying an action to see what happens or to experience it.
👉 Focus = The experience or result
2) Feeling
The speaker is saying:
Try it and see. You might find it helpful/good
It is softer and less commanding than -(으)세요.
Example,
| 이 음식을 먹어 보세요. | Try this food. |
| 한국 드라마를 봐 보세요. | Try watching a Korean drama. |
| 이 버튼을 눌러 보세요. | Try pressing this button. |
| 다시 생각해 보세요. | Try thinking about it again. |
The listener is free to try, not strongly told to do it.
We can compare as below.
| Main Idea | Please do this / 하세요 | Try doing this / 해 보세요 |
| Focus | The action | The experience/result |
| Strength | More direct | Softer, more like advice |
| Nuance | Instruction / request | Suggestion / experiment |
